The Sheffield Netball League – Spring 2012 Season Review
19 Nov 2012
Champs storm to their third straight Premiership title.
Premiership
Champs made it a stunning hat trick of Premiership wins with a dominant season long display. They become only the second team in Match Night history to win three Premiership crowns in a row. The other team being Dynamix back in the Spring 2007 season. Champs stormed to the Premiership title in style completing another season undefeated and with an 100% record. They are currently on a staggering run of 38 games unbeaten, which dates back to 8th June 2011, when Wadsley Jack beat team. The question is can they confirm their status as league legends by doing something no team has ever done before and win four titles in a row!

Champs - three time Premiership champions
Wadsley Jack completed another good season and finished as runners up for the second season in a row. Dynamix finished in third and will no doubt hope to mount a serious title challenge next season and stop Champs breaking their long standing record. The two newly promoted teams had impressive seasons in the top flight, with High Green Cyclones and Stakes and Hartley finishing in fourth and fifth respectively.
The player of the season award was shared between star players Lesley Athorn-Mico (Dynamix) and Rachel Bannister (High Green Cyclones) with a record of six nominations.
Championship
Lasers completed a fantastic season with saw them clinch the Championship title and return to the Premiership after a three season absence. They impressed all season long and played some superb netball on their way to the team’s first ever divisional title. Lasers will hope they can continue this good form as they face the challenges of top flight netball next season. They will also be looking to bring back the glory days, which has seen the team finish as high as second in the Premiership in the past.
The Toyoda Girls put last season’s disappointment behind them and bounced back to the Premiership at the first time of asking. They will hope they can now stay in the Premiership and avoid becoming a real yo-yo team.

The Toyoda Girls - back to the Premiership!
The player of the season award was shared between star players Nicola Christian (The Shadows) and Rachel Waller (Miss-Fits) with a record of seven nominations.
League One
Swoosh confined last seasons’ disappointment of just missing out on promotion by one point to history. The team, led by Sienna Knight, made no mistakes this season as they clinched the title in style by twelve clear points and storm into the Championship. It will be the team’s first experience of Championship netball, however, on this form the team will feel they can make a real impact next season.
Hallam Hustlers made it back promotions in dramatic style. They leap frogged the unlucky Ball Saints on the last night of the season and clinched the final promotion spot by just one point.
The player of the season award was won by DLA super star Kirstie Courtney-May with an amazing record of nine nominations. It was some consolation for the team who suffered their second relegation in a row.
League Two
CBA, led by captain Sally Anderson, completed a dominant season long display with a perfect record of 14 wins out of 14. It was a very impressive first season it the league for CBA and they eventually won the title by 15 clear points. It marks out CBA as a team to watch for the future and on this form who would bet against their continued raise up the league.
CBA - League Two winners
In a dramatic climax to the season, Storm leap frogged The Individuals on the final night of the season to clinch the final promotion spot by just one point. Storm held their nerve on the final night to claim the victory they needed. However, they owe Netbelles a few drinks after their victory over promotion rivals The Individuals handed promotion to Storm. It marks a quick return to League One netball for Storm after the disappointment of relegation last season.
The player of the season award was won by DR Systems captain Karen Houghton with an impressive record of 8 nominations.
League Three
This season marked the launch of our new League Three division and it was DMG who claim the honour of being its first champions. DMG are well worthy winners as they completed a super first season in the league, which saw them finish with a 100% record. They look like they have the skills, motivation and ambition to go a long way in the league and the future looks bright for DMG.
The race for the final promotion spot saw Plusnetters just edge out Jets and claim the runners up position. It was only Plusnetters second season in the league and they have showed some great improvements and fully deserve their first league honour. They will hope they can continue this improvement next season as they make the step up to League Two netball.
The player of the season award was won by Blundell Belles super star Alexandra Hambleton with a record of 8 nominations. It is the second season in a row she has won the award and has now collected an incredible 19 nominations in 29 games.
